Hi, I’m April! I recently relocated from Kentucky to Jacksonville, though I’ve had the opportunity to live in several parts of the country, including Atlanta and Seattle. Before becoming a mental health counselor, I spent years as an educational therapist and special education teacher, which helped shape my deep passion for supporting individuals through life’s challenges. My approach is rooted in helping clients recognize their unique strengths and empowering them to navigate both everyday struggles and life’s more complex hurdles.
I’m thrilled to be part of the exceptional team at Family Therapy Associates of Jacksonville and look forward to the opportunity to work together in fostering growth, healing, and resilience.

Biography
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Special Education from Morehead State University, and later became certified in educational therapy through the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD). Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students from PreK3 to high school, with a special focus on behavior management, emotional regulation, and developing social skills.
Currently, I am completing my Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree at the University of the Cumberlands and am a proud member of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
Outside of my professional life, I’m a wife and mother to three wonderful sons, ages 23, 21, and 17. Our family also includes our energetic Pomeranian, Pickles, and our sweet rescue Dachshund, Stewart. In my spare time, I enjoy running, baking, traveling, and cheering on my favorite college football teams.
NOTE: April Cornett is acquiring the clinical hours required to complete a mental health counseling degree and is under supervision provided by Ida Holem and Dr. Tabitha Johnson.
