Hello! My name is Julia Wagoner, and I am honored and privileged to be a Master’s student intern with Family Therapy Associates of Jacksonville. Although I lived in Florida years ago, my husband, our bullmastiff Augustine, and I recently moved from Chicago back to Jacksonville for our careers. We are happy to be back in the sunshine state, close to friends and away from the Chicago winters.
In my undergraduate studies, I pursued a career in physical therapy because I wanted to help people. It was during those years, however, that I realized so many more people are in need of mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. As a result, I switched my focus to counseling. I learned what happy, healthy relationships can be like, and developed a desire to help people heal themselves and their relationships to experience thriving relationships in their lives.
I have experience helping college students and young adults cope with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. In addition, I treat various mood disorders, anxiety, and video gaming addiction.
We can often struggle with loneliness, or feel overwhelmed with work, tension with family members, or worry about the future, and fear that we will be a burden to our loved ones. In my sessions, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can bring your worries, fears, and concerns and process them. Together, we will strategize new ways to approach problems and develop coping skills that you can implement throughout your lifetime.
If you desire, I am happy to integrate spirituality into therapy. I am so excited to begin working with you!
I received my undergraduate degree in Gainesville, FL, from the University of Florida in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. A few years and cross-country moves later, I began my graduate studies in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Hodges University in Naples, Florida. I am currently completing that degree. I continue to receive education on effective, research- based methods in couples therapy such as John Gottman and Sue Johnson in efforts to provide the best service to my clients.
In my spare time, am passionate about sushi, movies and movie score music, the Florida Gators, and my Catholic faith.
NOTE: Julia Wagoner is a master’s student intern acquiring clinical hours required for her degree, and is under supervision of Dr. Tabitha Johnson and Kristen Montiel. Sessions may be recorded for training purposes.
